What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a backend software engineer to help build the software responsible for controlling the 4680 cell formation process. Cell formation is a highly automated process in which new cells are charged and tested. Our software manages tens of millions of cells at a time, commands thousands of pieces of equipment, and collects millions of datapoints per second. This engineer will deliver automation systems that command and manage formation equipment while optimizing routing and utilization to ensure that cells are correctly and efficiently processed. In this role you will be working on the services that will enable Tesla to increase production of in-house built 4680 cells to power the global clean energy transition.

What You?ll Do

  • Design, build, and deploy scalable software systems to automate the mass production formation process
  • Create new features and modifications as the manufacturing process matures and production needs change
  • Improve existing software to improve quality and efficiency
  • Produce robust software to support global manufacturing across multiple factories by instrumenting services to increase observability, architecting scalable software systems, and writing documentation
  • Contribute to software testing and continuous deployment processes

What You?ll Bring

  • Proficient in modern system technologies such as gRPC, GraphQL, SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Proficient in system-level languages such as C, C++, Golang, or Rust.
  • BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or the equivalent in experience with evidence of exceptional ability
  • Fluent in software fundamentals including software design, backend infrastructure, code modularity and maintainability
  • Mentorship experience working with junior developers
  • Remain engaged, proactive, and positive in tough circumstances, owning assignments and taking full accountability for overall team success.
  • Possess strong communication skills and a preference for delivering as part of a team
