Project OpenCell

The OpenCell team is looking for a front end developer who is motivated to work on a big challenge, something that has never been done before . We are going to replace spreadsheets.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about coding. If you like working with the bleeding edge of open source technologies, if you like nothing better than to code for yourself on the weekends, then this is the best project at JPM for you.

There is no playbook for this project. This effort involves fundamental engineering challenges with no template on how to solve them. We need a motivated developer who is up for working with emerging libraries and ones that don't have fully documented code, such as regular-table, hyper-grid or arrow-js.

What we need from you
  • React and JavaScript experience
  • Confidence in your ability to write code good enough to be open sourced (because it will be out there for the world to see when we are finished)
  • Experience with Python, Apache Arrow, Pandas, Rust, or AWS technologies is a plus
  • Be able to work in conjunction with the backend to create highly performant code to handle large editable datagrids with hundreds of millions of rows. This is more like server-side work on JS.
  • Create mixed style work such as providing user configurable style sheets similar to table/cell-formatting in Excel or creating an editor to process, validate and autocomplete simple DSL for UDF.
  • Experience in creating interactive charts, heat maps etc. using OSS such as d3fc etc.
  • Front-end work such as creating different user forms, searchable drop downs, drag and drop etc.

The OpenCell project is a rare opportunity for a developer to work on something completely new, using any technology we have to get the job done. Working on an existing application making incremental improvements to a system using asp.net will be easier and more predictable, but it won't be as interesting.
