We are building new, cutting edge cloud-based content development, management, and delivery systems to power intelligent contextual help and to deliver comprehensive guides for all of Apple's hardware, software, and services. We are seeking an experienced UNIX Systems Engineer/Sysadmin familiar with DevOps methodologies. This role focuses on the management of VMware clusters, automated workflows, maintenance of servers/containers/k8s, web service performance tuning, and the implementation of server monitoring. Additionally, candidates will perform traditional UNIX server sysadmin tasks, such as disaster recovery, security, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and SSL certificate management.

Key Qualifications

  • Expert UNIX / Linux systems administration experience, Debian or RHEL experience a plus.
  • Experience administering VMWare and VSAN infrastructure
  • Migration of virtual instances between platforms
  • macOS VM experience.
  • Experience with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, deployment and compute services
  • Experience in DBA: MongoDB (and/or MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis)
  • Experience in creating scripts to automate distributed client-server infrastructure.
  • Scripting experience (Python, JavaScript, Ruby, GoLang, Rust, or equivalent) Ansible, CI/CD, testing methodologies.
  • Skilled in UNIX utilities, programs, and processes:
  • Shell/cli
  • Apache/Nginx
  • Kafka
  • Package management (APT/RPM)
  • Configuration management (e.g. Puppet or equivalent)
  • DNS, LDAP and Kerberos directory services
  • Version control (git, svn)
  • Security updates

Description

The Instructional Products Engineering team is looking for an experienced operations engineer with excellent UNIX system administration skills. The ideal candidate: Would serve as site reliability engineer for mission-critical content management and delivery services. Has a broad experience and deep knowledge of UNIX and its related technologies. Is enthusiastic about collaborating with software developers to architect solutions. Has a driving passion to improve existing processes and systems. Independently identifies problem areas and creates elegant solutions. Has experience in building packages in at least one of the following: RPM, APT(DBM) or Gentoo. Nice to have: Javascript/Node.js/GoLang experience

Education & Experience

- Technical BS/MS degree or equivalent work experience

    • Must work on site in Cupertino.
